Garage Sale Tips - How to Write an Attention Grabbing Garage Sale Ad

You have to know what works in your area in regards to advertising. In my rural area, the local "Advertiser" newspaper is the place to advertise your garage sale and I truly believe that this is not the place to skimp! My 2007 garage sale was a huge event; it was a group sale with 4 of us selling our treasures. Our ad cost 0, but it was definitely worth every penny! We sold about 00 as a group and my hard earned profits totaled 00.

Items to include in your Garage Sale Ad:

Date and Times - State the day, date and hours of your sale; you may also set a rain date if you wish (Fri. June 19, 8-5 & Sat. June 20, 8-12) Your AdDress - Be sure to include your adDress, this is very helpful to your future customers; they can even look up your adDress on-line if they are not familiar with the area. Some avid garage sale folks have been known to plan their garage sale route with Google maps! Clear Driving Directions - Give clear driving directions and if you are in a rural area, you may want to include the distances too (south on Your Ave for 2 miles, west on 150th St. for 3 miles). Landmarks Close to You - List landmarks such as: 1 block north of Blockbuster or 1 mile south of Burger King. Name or Names - If you feel comfortable, you can add your last name. We have a sale every year and we have a following of people who come every year, so these folks are usually Watching the ads for our sale. Cash Only - If you do not want to deal with checks, you can state "Cash Only" in your ad. Personally, I have not had any issues with bad checks so I will take local checks, but that is totally up to you. Be Descriptive - You want your shoppers to see your ad and come to your sale, so the more information they have, the better. Describe your sale: Huge Annual Multi-Family Sale, Heated Shed Sale, Huge Moving Sale and so on. Catchy Headline - Use this line to catch the reader's attention. Some examples I have seen are: "Cleaned out my Daughter's Bedrooms", "Obsessive Shopper Sale", "I Have too Much Stuff Sale", "Downsizing for ReTireMent Sale". List your items - I love reading those lists in the ads and if they have boys Clothing in size 3T...I am there for sure! If you are selling Clothing, be sure to list the gender and sizes and even brand names. Be sure to list any furniture, appliances and large items, outdoor toys, swing sets, popular kid's toys or collections and baby items like cribs, walkers, car seats and so on. Add a Teaser - Give them another reason to come to your sale by stating a little perk, like "Free toys on Saturday" or "Clothing 1/2 price on Saturday" or "Everything 1/2 price after 12:00 on Saturday" because at this point, trust me, you just want it gone! (I say Saturday because we usually have our sale on Friday and then a few hours on Sat.)

Is a Box Spring Necessary for the Mattress-Bed?

Is a Box Spring Necessary for the Mattress-Bed?

Do I need a Box Spring for my Mattress? This question comes up at least once during bed shopping for 90% of all people. And for good reason. Box Springs are a multi-million Dollar, multi-million tree chopping industry. So in light of the green revolution (re-co-lu-tion?) these days, one can only wonder: is there really a reason for all the senseless killing of defenseless trees just to have an extra foot of wood, fabric, and Air underneath your fully functional mattress? As it turns out, the answer is both a resounding no with a hint of yes. The real kicker here is that most modern box springs don't actually have "springs" in them, which basically leaves just the "box" part as a truth. And this is exactly what they are, a wood-framed box covered with fabric. All of the bells, whistles, and 21st century technology go into the mattress part of the bed, which, if you were a well-informed bed shopper, could take on all sorts of exotic construction from innerspring, foam, visco-elastic (memory) foam, flotation (water), or Air.

Is a Box Spring Necessary for the Mattress-Bed?

Since most box springs are hard, mattresses are designed to work perfectly well on just about any firm, hard surface. The floor is one. I've slept on a mattress on the floor for a good 8 years, and I can personally vouch for the undiminished comfort of such a setup. If there is one key arguMent for box springs, it is that certain touted mattress manufacturers will claim that a box spring can extend the life of a mattress. This stateMent is true only to the extent of the box spring providing additional spring cushioning, absorbing some of the wear that is normally exhibited onto the mattress itself. These manufacturers typically provide a box spring with their mattress, one that they say is specifically designed to be used with that mattress.

Realistically, from all of the research I have done on this (and with a girlfriend that constantly debates this point with me, I've done my share of research), I have concluded that box springs only do two things well, and that is 1. increase the overall height of the bed, and 2. soften the overall firmness of the bed (given that the box spring is not extremely firm). Helping the mattress last longer is a distant, distant, and arguable third. As a person who neither cares for a tall bed, nor a soft bed, I found that platform beds are the most stylishly modern, environmentally-friendly pieces of furniture to complement my mattress. You simply don't need a box spring for your mattress/bed.

Selecting California King Comforter Sets

Here are the tests that you must perform on any of the California king comforter sets that you are considering buying:

The Touch Test

Feel the material, stroke it and fondle it well. See whether it is flowing or stiff. I myself am partial to the soft and supple material but if you like the stiffer kind then go for it. Just make sure that the material feels good to you. You need to try and imagine what it would be likesleeping on it every single night. Is that something that you want to do? Does it really feel that good? Until you are sure you don't buy any at all!

The Stress Test

Find an edge or seam and pull on it gently. Does it come apart too easily? Is it holding? You want your set to be stitched will and strong, this is what will show whether your California king comforter sets are going to fall apart the very first time they get put into the wash or not.

Can I Wash My King Size Comforter in My Washing Machine?

Can I Wash My King Size Comforter in My Washing Machine?

A kingsize comforter is definitely big. It can occupy most of the space in your washing machine. Most of those who are using a top load washing machine might have to hand wash their comforters in king size. The tub space inside a top loader is just not enough.

However, if you have a top load machine with tub capacity bigger than a front loader, then you can use it. But generally, a fAir-sized front loader does the trick. So, to get this work out of the way, here are some of the steps in washing:

Step 1: Remove comforter from your bed. You can wash this separately or include this with your pillowcases if there is still more room. Remember that if you want your washer to clean this efficiently, you should give it a lot ofroom to tumble.

Step 2: Normally, all fabrics have washing instructions sewn on one side of it. Check your brand of comforter if it comes with that instruction. You should see instructions like hand-washed or no bleach or sun dry. If you can be washed using a washing machine, then you can use your washer. Otherwise, you might only be allowed to use dry cleaning. In this case, you have to take your comforter to the dry cleaner.

Step 3: Slightly fluff the comforter up and then dump it in your washer. Make sure you have placed it evenly. Now program the machine to the right settings. Use warm washing settings to remove any dirt and stains in it. If there is machine washing recomMendation in the TAG attached to the comforter, follow it.

Step4: Allow the machine to finish washing your comforter. After it is completely finished, you can now hang it outside to dry. You can also use your dryer but if it is an electric dryer, it might take forever to dry completely. You can also dry it for a few minutes in the washer's dryer and take it out while it is still slightly damp and let the warmth of the sun "finish the Job for you.

All these steps are only applicable if your comforter is washer safe. If you have a steam washer, you can use that to wash but if not, just go to your nearest dry cleaner and have it cleaned. Another option is to clean it manually. However, that would be too much work for a large comforter.

Getting Creative! How to Make Your Own Twin Sofa Bed

Do you live in a small dorm or studio apartMent? If you do, you are probably familiar with the difficulties of trying to combine style with functionality. Getting Creative! How to Make Your Own Twin Sofa Bed

However, just because you have limited space doesn't mean you can't add style. In fact, this is where you could allow your creativity to shine through. With some imagination and forethought, you could have a living space that is perfect for both day and night. This could be accomplished by turning your twin bed into a sofa. In the evening, you could switch your sofa back into a twin bed.

The Pros and Cons of Turning Your Twin Bed into aSofa

To begin, you would need a twin platform bed, mate's bed " or any twin bed that doesn't have a headboard or post. It is important to note, that due to their width, full, queen or king size bed would not convert nicely into a couch. This would not give the look or feel that you'd want (not to Mention, it would look quite Silly).

The obvious advanTAGe of turning your twin bed into a sofa would be that you already have the primary element for this design--a twin bed. This equals savings, as you would only need to purchase a few odds and ends to convert your bed into a lovely sofa for daytime living.

Another pro would be that unlike a futon, you would not need to perform additional steps to make yourtwin bed into a sofa. All that is necessary would be adding additional pillows against the back of the bed to give it the look of a sofa.

One disadvanTAGe of converting your bed into a couch would be that this idea wouldn't be suitable if you share your space with someone else. For example, if you live in a dorm this might make it difficult. However, there are chances this still could work if your roommate uses a hide-away bed that saves on space. It all really just depends on the situation.

If you decide to go with this idea, one last thing ...

You may find the biggest con to be the height of your bed in comparison to daybeds, futons and sofas. Platform beds are substantially lower compared to daybeds. So, keep that in mindwhen considering this option, and if the difference in height doesn't bother you, then using it as a sofa would not be a problem.

If you can afford to spend some extra money but still find you don't like the height-issues that come with platform beds, this could be easily remedied by boosting the height of your bed with an extra mattress or box spring. Another option would be to purchase inexpensive bed lifts or risers. They could add an additional 1 to 10 inches or more to the height of your bed.

Yet, a word of warning, risers only work if your bed has legs. If not, you would need to add height by using an extra mattress or box spring.

Lesson 101: Turning your Twin Bed into a Sofa with Style

Toturn your twin bed into a sofa, you would simply place it width wise-against a wall (like a daybed). Next, you could add height by using bed risers or an extra box spring or mattress. That is the basics, now onto the creative and fun aspect of switching your twin bed into a sofa and vice versa. This section will reveal how you could add a personal touch and make your twin sofa bed uniquely your own.

Use appropriate bedding

How could you make your bed most resemble a sofa? The answer is simple, use appropriate bedding. This could be accomplished by purchasing a bed skirt or a bedding set. This would allow you to cover the legs of your bed and would give it the look of a sofawith upholstered flaps. If you use bed risers, make sure to have them in place first before buying the bedding. That way, you could take measurements to ensure that the bedding is long enough to cover the legs once the risers are in place.

Use pillows

Pillows are ideal for creating a faux backing to your bed and faux arms. Pillows could be switched around to accommodate a sofa and a bed. For evening, you could place the pillows at the head of the bed for sleeping. And during the day you could place the pillows in the back for support, comfort and look and feel. As for the arms, you could place bolsters on each side of the bed to fool the eyes into believing your sofa isn't armless.

Create your ownupholstered backing

If using pillows exclusively for backing doesn't appeal to you, another option would be to create an upholstered backing for your sofa bed. This may sound as if it would put a dent in your pocketbook, but upholstered backing could be made inexpensively without compromising on style or showroom appeal.

The main Supplies you would need to make an upholstered backing are ...

plywood upholstery foam and fabric

Keep in mind, it is also important to take measurements before starting on this project to determine the height that you desire for your headboard. What makes this project so affordable is that if you do not possess the tools needed to size the plywood, you could take it to a local hardware store and have them cut it for youat a fraction of the cost.

Once you're ready to get started, there are various tutorials on the Internet that could assist you in creating a headboard. Nice one worth mentioning is Make Your Own Upholstered Headboard. It should help you along quite nice and give you a few other ideas on decorative style in the process.

Once you're finished, you'll find that the upholstered headboard lends an element of class to your space. Creating your own one-of-a-kind headboard will add a sense of accomplishment. It will also be perfectly suited to your taste and style, and as a bonus you can bet you'll get plenty of compliments from your friends in the process.

A Memory Foam Mattress Will Be Too Hot For You?

A Memory Foam Mattress Will Be Too Hot For You?

One of the biggest complaints people have against their memory foam mattress is that it gets too hot. But not all beds are created equal. Two the subtle differences in chemical composition, some foam beds stay cooler than others.

A Memory Foam Mattress Will Be Too Hot For You?

A Memory Foam Mattress Will Be Too Hot For You?

A Memory Foam Mattress Will Be Too Hot For You?

A Memory Foam Mattress Will Be Too Hot For You?

The main reason that foam mattresses can get warm is that they are designed to put your body in as close contact as possible with the foam. Foam functions optimally when you are in direct contact with it. The more layers you have between you and the foam, the less effective the foam will be. However foam is also a good insulator, so getting closer creates a better feel but also means the sleep experience will be a little warmer.

Innerspring beds, and many all foam beds, have a layer of polyester fiberjust beneath the ticking and above the foam. This layer of filling forms a thin barrier between you and the foam, and does an excellent Job of dispersing the heat from your body. But most memory foam beds do not have a fiber layer. Their cotton cover lies directly over top of the memory foam. So it's left enTirely up to the foam to disperse heat from your body.

Memory foam is an open cell structure material, meaning that its cell walls are open. The open cell structure allows foam to collapse to absorb body weight and expand to provide support. It also allows heat to flow away from your body while you sleep. And this is the thing that either makes a foam bed hot or not. How well does the memory foam bed in your dispersed heat? Different bed manufacturers use different foam, so the only way to really know if a bed is going to be too hot for you is to sleep on it.

How Does a Memory Foam Mattress Compare to Your Bed?

If you have ever slept on an innerspring mattress with 2 "-3" of foam, or a foam bed topper, then you may already have your answer to whether or not a memory foam mattress will be too hot for you. Most innerspring beds today have 2 "-3" of foam on top. This amount of foam will be similar to the warmth of an all foam bed.

So if you feel comfortable sleeping on an innerspring bed with a top layer of foam or a foam topper, then you will most likely feel comfortable sleeping on a memory foam> mattress.

Easy Solution for Hot Memory Foam Mattress

But what if you get a bed and decide that it's too hot, but you really love the feel? Well luckily there is a very simple solution. Mattress pads have a thin layer of polyester filling that will provide an extra layer of cool Airflow between you and the memory foam. Simply purchase a mattress pad and put it over the bed, under your fitted sheet. This will draft heat away from your body before it begins to build up in the memory foam.

Recognizing The Common Fill Types Of Comforter Sets

Recognizing The Common Fill Types Of Comforter Sets

For homes throughout the far northern climates in which the regular temperature stays well below that of their southern neighbours, spending extra money for down filled comforter sets is undoubtedly an easy choice to make, yet, in the more damp regions of the south, a cotton or synthetic fill could prove to be more durable and resistant against mildew in comparison with down. On account of factors like these, there usually are necessary factors to keep in mind when choosing your queen size comforters as well as other bedding items.

Recognizing The Common Fill Types Of Comforter Sets

You will not want to put your grandmothers' antique Eider down full comforter sets out as girls bedding simply because they might quickly be wrecked. By the same token, once you have reached a point in life where comfort is very important, you might not want just any kind of comforter on your own bed. Any time you set out to pick out bed linens for your home, carefully consider the way the bedding will be used.

Will anyone touching the bedding sets you choose suffer from allergies to down or even dust? Then maybe a hypoallergenic artificial fill would be a more suitable choice. Are the california king sized comforter sets designed to ward off winters chill while in the coldest bedroom of the home? Then a heavy weight down filled bedding set could very well be in order.

No one wants to confess it but everyone has to base our selections in comfort to fall in line with our finances. Simply put, those Eider down comforter sets tend to be lusciously soft and luxuriant, however for everybody who is on a demanding spending budget, they quite possibly need to go back on the shelf. The general rule of thumb in buying bedding is synthetic fills will carry the lower prices and natural fills will certainly boost the price TAG according to the level of quality along with weight of the fill materials.

Whatever an individual's intended usage or finances are, the fact of the matter is still that your decision in cal king bed comforters is an individual decision. If you don't enjoy the low-priced polyester filled bed comforter at the retail store, you are not about to enjoy it much better after you take it home. Decide on your bedding ensemble in accordance with your very own tastes and you will then find you receive far more enjoyMent from them and they will remain a great value in your mind for a considerably longer time.
